Vehicle modifications and equipment
Our Driver Trained OTs can prescribe vehicle modifications and other equipment or aids to help people with physical disabilities drive and safely access his/her vehicle. Vehicle modifications include various types of hand controls and left foot accelerators for driving. Other equipment can include hoists, swivel seats and ramps to allow drivers and passengers with disabilities to safely access the vehicle.
Driving lesson plans
We can also develop rehabilitation driving lesson plans for people with cognitive or physical impairments. Whether a new driver requires driving lessons, or an experienced driver is learning to drive with newly prescribed modifications, our driver trained OTs can help assess and monitor the person’s progress. This also includes applying for funding for specialized driving lessons, vehicle modifications and/or equipment under the NDIS, insurance or Work Cover claims.
